RESULTS OF DYNAMIC OBSERVATION OF A PATIENT WITH NON-ARTERITIC ANTERIOR ISCHEMIC OPTIC NEUROPATHY (A CLINICAL CASE)

Abstract

Purpose: dynamic observation of a patient with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).Methods: a patient with unilateral acute NAION was examined during the period of 18 days, 1 and 4 months from the onset of the disease. Diagnosis of NAION was based on clinical examination and SD-OCTA (RTVue-XR, Optovue). SD-OCTA was used to measure the peripapillary vessel density (RPC, %) and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL, µm) in peripapillary retina. Results: in 1 month from the onset of the disease, a gradual decrease of RNFL edema (from 403µm to 245µm) was observed, with insignificant changes of the RPC density (from 39.6% to 39.8%). In 4 months from the onset of the disease, a thinning of theRNFL thickness (73µm), a decrease in the ganglion cell complex (76µm), and a decrease of the RPC density (29.4%) were revealed. Conclusion: SD-OCTA allows to study the current of the pathological process which is necessary to improve the results of treatment and prevent loss of visual functions.
