PIGMENT DISPERSION SYNDROME AND PIGMENTARY GLAUCOMA

Abstract

Pigment dispersion syndrome is a pathological condition characterized by the presence of pigment cells on the posterior surface of the cornea, transillumination defects in the mid-periphery of the iris and increased pigmentation of the trabecular meshwork. This triad of symptoms can cause elevated intraocular pressure, followed by the development of pigmentary glaucoma. This article provides an overview of domestic and foreign literature on epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, clinical features of the course of pigment dispersion syndrome and pigmentary glaucoma, and also provides information on a modern approach to their diagnosis and treatment.
